Shower Tray Replacement in Witney
I replace shower trays as part of proper shower repair and refurbishment work in Witney and nearby West Oxfordshire, including tray removal, waste and pipework checks, wall preparation, waterproofing, tiling and finishing.
A leaking, cracked or moving shower tray can sometimes be a sign of a deeper problem behind the finished surface. Before quoting, I look at the existing shower area and explain what is realistically needed.
I replace leaking, cracked or moving shower trays where the shower area needs to be put right properly, not just patched over.
This service is for planned shower tray replacement and failed shower area repairs, not quick patch-up work or temporary leak fixes.
A shower tray replacement needs more than just a new tray
Replacing a shower tray properly often means checking more than the tray itself. The waste position, floor support, wall condition, pipework, tiling, screen position and waterproofing all need to be considered before the new tray is fitted.
If water has already been leaking, there may be damage behind the tiles, around the tray or underneath the floor covering. In those cases, simply fitting a new tray without dealing with the surrounding area can leave the same problem waiting to come back.
I quote shower tray replacement based on the actual condition of the shower area, not just the cost of swapping one visible part.
Signs your shower tray may need replacing
• cracks appearing in the tray
• movement when standing on the tray
• water leaking outside the shower area
• damp ceiling below the bathroom
• repeated sealant failure around the tray
These problems are often caused by poor support under the tray or movement in the floor structure.
If the tray has moved, leaked or damaged the surrounding walls or floor, the problem may need more than a straightforward tray swap. See my leaking shower repair page for failed shower areas.
How a shower tray replacement is carried out
-
Remove the shower screen and existing tray
-
Inspect the waste connection and floor structure
-
Install a properly supported shower tray
-
Re-tile or install wall panels where required
-
Re-seal and test the installation
If water has penetrated behind the tiles, the affected plasterboard or wall boards may need replacing before the shower tray and wall finish can be installed properly. This ensures the new installation is solid and properly waterproofed.
I mainly carry out shower tray replacement and failed shower area repairs in Witney and nearby West Oxfordshire areas including Carterton, Bampton, Burford, Ducklington, Eynsham, Long Hanborough, Minster Lovell and Chipping Norton.
Example of a shower tray that had been installed on expanding foam and timber offcuts, which caused movement and eventually leaks.

Shower trays need a solid, level base. Poor support can cause movement, failed sealant and leaks over time.
